Satuit Band/Claire Perkins Memorial Scholarship
Claire Perkins played clarinet, soprano, alto, tenor and bari sax, french horn, and euphonium. She shared her talent with several bands throughout New England. Claire was a teacher, an avid golfer and mother of four. She joined the Satuit Band in 1978 and for the next 25 seasons was a staunch member of the band serving as principal clarinet and librarian until her untimely passing on February 22, 2004.
Because Claire was adamant that the Satuit Band resume the practice of providing scholarships to college students, her family graciously requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Satuit Band Scholarship Fund. For the next five seasons scholarships were given in Claire’s name from that fund which has been augmented by generous donations from our audiences.
In the winter of 2008 the board voted to continue giving scholarships in her memory. The Satuit Band/Claire Perkins Memorial Scholarships will be awarded to those college students who demonstrate a high standard of participation in band activities. To date, over 100 scholarships have been given in Claire’s memory.
